YEARLING HEAD START
– PART ONE
SHOW IN LONGE LINE – MARKET YOUR HORSE –
CONDITION FOR SALE – SHOW OFF POTENTIAL
You’ll have piece of mind knowing you’re giving your
horse a proper ‘Head Start!’
“Invest in their future!”
BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN BREEDER, BUYERS & TRAINERS
Often times Breeders don’t know what to do with their
babies from the time they are weaned to the time they
are started under saddle so they don’t do anything.
Trainers tell them to leave them alone so they don’t
create problems that have to be fixed later. However the
stress created by throwing a youngster straight from the
pasture into a training environment can be very
overwhelming both mentally and physically…plus they have
to play catch-up with the ones that have begun an
earlier education.
For Breeders and Owners who have an interest in showing
in longe line or marketing their horse as a yearling,
PART ONE of our YEARLING HEAD START PROGRAM is the place
to begin. This program has become instrumental in
preparing young horses for their show career. It’s easy
for both horses and owners to understand giving them a
step up. It takes the guess work out of evaluating
future potential…chasing them around the pasture with a
golf cart is a thing of the past! With more and more
futurities and slot classes requiring early nomination
fees it’s necessary to start conditioning them while
teaching manners and movement at an early age. This
program is kindergarten for young horses giving them the
confidence they’ll need to make great show horses
without taking a toll on their mind, body or legs. It’s
not about overworking them going round and round in
circles. There’s a lot more to teaching movement and
self carriage on the longe line just as there is more to
western pleasure than riding around on the rail! As
Breeders, all of us want to protect our young horses
insuring they are strong and sound both physically and
mentally helping them to reach their full genetic
potential. Whether they are aimed at showing in yearling
longe line or are just preparing for life under saddle,
this step by step building block program gives them the
confidence they’ll need to make great show horses.
Our YEARLING HEAD START PROGRAM is adding to the
Pleasure Horse Industry in several ways. The interest in
longe line is growing so the demand for young horses is
increasing. We’re giving the Breeder an opportunity to
get more involved with showing and promoting their young
horses. The market is expanded because we are giving
less experienced owners the tools to confidently enter
the show ring in an area in which they can be
competitive. And we are helping to protect young
pleasure prospects by creating a smoother transition
between weanling age and riding age which results in
fewer dropouts mentally and physically.
WE CAN HELP IN TWO WAYS…
We can do the work for you in our Training Program or we
can give you the tools to do it yourself though private
lessons or through our clinics. We are looking forward
to our instructional DVD series to be available in the
future.

Robin demonstrated with Misty Eyed
In Paradise as she discussed her
Yearling Head Start Program while
her husband, Roger, video recorded
it. Robin emphasized that yearling
longe line is only part of their
Yearling Head Start Program which is
a building block system aimed at
preparing young horses for life
under saddle. "Our program eases
the stress of training both
physically and mentally from the
time they are weaned to the time
they are ridden. Whether the horse
is shown in longe line or not, when
it comes time to ride he will
already know how to carry himself
like a show horse plus know the cues
that will be used under saddle."
