At Gollehon Show Horses our passion and focus is on pleasure
horses...raising them, training them, showing them and
selling t hem!
We promote our own as well as customer horses. For the past
30 years we have made our living exclusively in the horse
industry coaching and training in almost every event, but
over the years we’ve turned our attention to what we like
the best which is pleasure horses. We coach youth and
amateurs plus show outside customer horses. We purposely
keep our numbers down so we can do a better job with both
horses and people. We show on a regional and national level
at the Quarter Horse shows, NSBA as well as some of the
color breed shows focusing mainly on yearling longe line and
western pleasure. We have wins at the largest shows in the
country including the All-American Quarter Horse Congress,
ApHC World & National Championship, NSBA World Championship,
Palomino World Championship, the Reichert Pleasure
Celebration, Tom Powers Futurity, Southern Belle Futurity,
Just For Pleasure, etc. Check out our successes in our
Headlines Pages, read our Training Philosophy, etc.
We’ve been blessed with the ability to spot a diamond in the
rough and have the talent to bring out its full potential
which has not only been beneficial in our training program
but has also helped in developing our breeding program. We
absolutely love the babies and raise five to eight Quarter
Horse foals a year with some of the hottest bloodlines in
the industry. Our current mares are own daughters of
Invitation Only, Zippos Mr Goodbar, Certain Potential,
Impulsions, and Zippos RV by Zips Chocolate Chip. Our foals
are by Only In The Moonlight, RL Best Of Sudden, The
Invitation, A Dream Remembered, Just Me Only, Vested Assets,
Ziprageous and HH Red Rock. Learn more about them on our
Mares & Foals Pages. We always have young horses for sale at
various ages and stages of training.
In 2008 we moved to our current location in Versailles,
Kentucky taking advantage of the Kentucky Breeders Incentive
Fund program expanding our breeding business. We stand a
handful of stallions and offer personalized mare management.
We are also a semen receiving station so mares that come
here to foal can either be bred back to one of the stallions
at Gollehon Show Horses or may receive semen from outside
stallions. We understand the concerns of the mare and
stallion owner since we’re breeders and owners ourselves and
take care of outside horses as if they were our own. We
offer a smaller alternative to the larger breeding farms
insuring your horse won’t get lost in the crowd.
We are located on a dead end lane giving it a peaceful
setting but we’re only minutes away from shopping, the
Lexington Airport and the Keeneland Race Course. Everything
is ’horsey’ including the names of the streets and there’s
one fabulous horse place after another. With such great
diversity we can have breakfast at the track in the morning,
work our pleasure horses in the afternoon and watch a rodeo
that night within a few miles of home. We are 30 minutes
from the Lexington Horse Park, home of the 2010 World
Equestrian Games and minutes from some of the most famous
Thoroughbred farms in the world making this a true
horseman’s destination location.
Our facility consists of two barns. The upper barn was two
years old when we moved here and barely used so it’s
practically new. It has 15 stalls, a heated wash rack and
washroom. Each stall has a window to the outside that may be
opened when the weather permits, rubber mats and a full open
grate door making the horses happy, safe and comfortable.
The asphalt aisle way adds greater safety and charm.
We built the lower barn in 2008 with thirty 12 x 12 stalls
and three 12 x 24 foaling stalls each with a custom built
stall front that not only give us a complete view of each
horse but also give the horses a wonderful feeling of
openness. It’s complete with an office, breeding lab,
mudroom and tack room that’s over 1500 square feet and our
“house” is upstairs with over 2300 square feet of living
space, cathedral ceilings and a huge deck that overlooks our
rolling pastures. In fact our bedroom window looks out into
the barn with a view of all the stalls! Our inviting patio
off the office gives you a place to sit back and relax with
a view of the pastures and outdoor arena with spectacular
sunsets on most evenings. In the winter months a pond and
small stream line the bottom of our property adding even
more beauty. Just outside of the breeding lab is a breeding
mount and stocks. As horsemen all our lives, this barn is
the culmination of our lifelong experience and the floor
plan can’t be beat. It has truly become the place of our
dreams! Farm Tour
We are the innovators of the Yearling Head Start Program,
designed to give young horses a leg up on their future
careers under saddle. Phase One begins with preparing them
for longe line to show, sell or to determine their potential
for the two year old futurities. Phase Two is our Get Ready
To Ride program which is the groundwork for coming two year
olds in a step by step process as they prepare for life
under saddle. We not only provide that service to breeders
and owners but also teach them how to do it themselves with
private lessons and clinics. Our past clinics include the
NSBA World Championship Show, the ApHC World Championship
Show and the Hoosier Horse Fair. We hold several clinics a
year at our facility in Versailles not only focusing on our
yearling program but also on teaching students to better
communicate with their horses under saddle. We teach what to
do during the first 90 days under saddle to how to deal with
problem issues with older broke horses. By popular demand an
instructional video is in the works.
As a member of Team Horse & Rider since its inception in
2005, Robin has assisted the Horse & Rider Magazine with
numerous articles and tips on training, sharing her
knowledge and experience. She and Roger have done most of
the photography for those articles as well. She has also
been featured in other magazines such as Growing Up With
Horses.
Years ago Robin attended a week long photography seminar
conducted by renowned equine photographer Harold Campton and
has been taking quality horse pictures ever since. She then
taught Roger what to do when she was the one being
photographed. “Our photography sideline is growing as people
realize our talents. We are taking more and more photos of
sale horses, show horses, etc. Contact us for more info.”
